PEOPLE | Abigail + Xan

Hey y’all!
It’s Lucas. One of the recent goals of DOWNTOWN CHURCH is to continue to invest and care for our many awesome church members under 18. I want to introduce two amazing people that are on staff at DOWNTOWN CHURCH, and who will be working alongside me with our YOUTH and TINY THEOLOGIANS!

Abigail Elsey (Gail) | Director of YOUTH + TINY THEOLOGIANS

1) What do you do when you aren't working at DTC?
When I'm not working at DTC I teach Kindergarten in Irmo. I also love game nights, hiking, and yoga!

 2) How did you end up at DTC and why do you keep coming back?
A friend of mine brought me to worship when we were at 701 Whaley one Sunday morning in college and I immediately felt at home. There are many things that keep me coming back to DTC, but most of all it's the people.

3) What are you most excited about in your role?
I'm most excited about building relationships with the youth and watching them grow on their faith journeys.

4) What's the best concert you've ever been to?
The Avett Brothers on New Years Eve in 2019. They are my all time favorite band!

5) If you could only eat one restaurant for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Miyabi's Japanese Steakhouse. Dinner AND a show? Count me in.

Xan Dubose | Conductor of MUSIC + YOUTH

1) What do you do when you aren't working at DTC?
I am currently working towards a Master's Degree in choral music at the College of Charleston and singing as much as I can.

2) How did you end up at DTC and why do you keep coming back?
Ten years ago Amos Disasa married my mother and my step father (I was 15 years old at the time). He heard me sing The Lord's Prayer at the ceremony and asked me to come and sing at DTC. The rest was history. I have never found another church where I felt this strong sense of belonging and community.

3) What are you most excited about in your role?
I am excited to expand the music experience at DTC and extend musical opportunities to more members of the congregation. I also hope to build important relationships with the youth and help them to find what I have found here at DTC.

4) What's the best concert you've ever been to? I attended a Lumineers show at Bonnaroo in 2019, where they performed their unreleased song "Leader of the Landslide." There was no shortage of tears.

5) If you could only eat one restaurant for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The Smiling Elephant, an authentic Thai restaurant in Nashville, TN. You can't beat it and you most definitely can't recreate it at home.
