In late March 2021, a group of DOWNTOWN CHURCH folk walked into the woods. Some had done it before, others didn’t quite know what they were getting into. It rained, it poured, the sun came out, and we had an amazing time getting to know one another in God’s oldest and grandest of sanctuaries: outside.

NEXT Wilderness Trip Details

If you are interested in going on the next trip, please plan to join us for a meeting on
Sunday, January 26 at 11:45a
(right after the 10:30a service at the Church) for a quick pre-trip meeting.
Should be about 20-30 minutes.  If you want to go but can't make it, email  hyde.timothy@gmail.com.

March 28-30th

Trip Leaders:
Wes Hickman + James Smith

Camping Site:
Location: Davidson River Campground in Brevard, NC, Campsite Details
- Sleeping in tents
- Sites have tent pads, lantern posts, campfire rings with a grill, and picnic tables
- Flush toilets and hot showers in the campground

Rough estimate cost is $78 per campsite and the cost of dinner and supplies per adult $30, more details to come on registration and payment details. Kids under 12 eat free.

Schedule:
- Plan to tent camp Friday and Saturday Night.  Since we will have reserved campsites and a stationary basecamp, there is a bit of flexibility.

- We have the campsites reserved for Friday Night, March 28 and Saturday Night, March 29
- Goal is to have everyone meet as early as possible on Friday morning to hike all day Friday and Saturday

Details about the campsites:
If you are a family of 4 with two tents, you probably will need your own campsite
If you have a REALLY large tent, you will probably need your own campsite
If you have a reasonable size tent, you can definitely share a campsite with some folks and split the cost
If cost is at all an issue, please let me know.  There are sponsorships available.

Meals:
Group dinners Friday and Saturday night will be provided
Breakfast, snacks, and lunch folks will need to figure out (don't worry...we'll help you figure this out and give some suggestions.  But you will need to shop and bring up your own food and coffee grounds)

Gear:
You will need the basics...tent, sleeping bag, hiking shoes, water bottle.  More specific suggested packing list to follow.
Great thing about the Downtown Church Community is that there is an abundance of gear and folks willing to share.  If you don't have a tent, we got you covered.  If you don't have a sleeping pad, we got you covered.  If you need a day hiking backpack, we got you covered.

Email hyde.timothy@gmail.com if you have questions, see you on January 26th!

Part of the grandeur of wilderness is that it cares so little
about the things that absorb us very much.
