Worship | Via Podcast

If you had asked us nine months ago if we would ever have worship online, we would have said a strong no. We’ve built our identity on gathering in person, sometimes in very inconvenient ways like packing 900 people inside our building so we can all worship together at once. We’ve intentionally not added screens to our worship space so that we focus on the paper and ink of the Bible in front of us or the face and breath of someone sitting next to us.

Of course, here we find ourselves nine months later and our reality has shifted. We have brought worship fully online, first with a “worship from your couch” model of videos and then more recently through the “worship in the world” podcast. We moved to the podcast because we found ourselves, like many of you, growing weary of staring at screens. Plus, it never felt like part of our identity, so we opened ourselves up to a new way.

The podcast emerged as a way to get up off of the couch, rest our eyes, and engage in worship in the world. We’ve heard from many of you who play it in the car on your commute, or while you do chores around the house like mowing the lawn or making dinner. We’ve heard that some of you listen to worship on your walk or run.

We knew there would be some cool things that emerged from experimenting with a new format for worship, but here are some of our favorite unexpected gifts:

  • The banter conversations between pastors about theology and scripture.

  • The seamless flow of worship from one thing to another

  • Sean’s original music that he created for this podcast for the intro, outro and holy interruption

  • The ability to hear many of your voices during our “holy interruption”

  • The ability to share the worship experience beyond our building, beyond Columbia, and even beyond the United States….. Dawn’s dream is to have an astronaut worship with us from the space station. If you’ve got connections, let her know.

If you haven’t given the podcast a listen yet, we encourage you to give it a try. You are joined by 100 others on Sundays when you listen, and even more throughout the week.

And, if you miss our faces (the videos), we’ve got good news for you. Dawn and Lucas are video recording the sermon each week. Look for it in your Sunday email or on the homepage of our website each Sunday. Some weeks, you’ll find a surprise music video from our musicians.

Here’s what you have to look forward to:
