Toilet Paper Y’all!
Covid19 has catapulted us to re-evaluate the significant things in our life – family, friends, good health, and oh yes, toilet paper! Now that our shelves are reasonably stocked again with basic necessities, we can at least take in a small sigh of relief for that blessing. But Cuba, now endeared to the DTC Cuba Team, continues to have this shortage. The shortage is not so much related to Covid19, as it to the overall condition of the country. Our friends are welcoming, they are gracious, and they are grateful. Yet, they live daily with limited access to all the essential items that we normally take for granted.
While visiting with nine different committed Presbyterian churches at the beginning of this year, the DTC Cuba team learned that toilet paper wasn’t all that was in low supply.
-Numerous single family dwellings are in need of being totally rebuilt for the safety and suitability of the occupants.
-Other single family dwellings need to be totally cleaned and organized, along with clothes being washed, as washers and dryers are not accessible to all.
-A Presbyterian day school is being built to provide a sound education for children in the rural spots on the outskirts of the Havana Presbytery, and supplies are needed as well.
-With so few activities and supplies for the elderly and children, the Presbytery wants to make it a priority to provide services to these two groups, as well as a safe haven for them and anyone to come.
In honoring our commitment to the Presbytery of Havana, by financially assisting them to help improve their quality of life, we are gladly accepting donations, should the Spirit lead you. You can send a check to DOWNTOWN CHURCH (2030 Gregg St. 29201) earmarked “Cuba” or give an online donation through our website and choosing “Cuba” in the drop-down menu.
Mucho gracias amigos de DTC!
