WORSHIP | Good Friday
Last year, the rain beat down on our tin roof as the final candle was extinguished and we sat together in the dark, not knowing what comes next.
Good Friday is the most somber service we do at DOWNTOWN CHURCH. Based on the ancient style of tenebrae, we retell the story of Jesus’ betrayal and death, while weaving in our own stories of suffering and death. With each movement of the story, the space grows darker, and we leave in complete silence, contemplating the depths of God’s love for us to die on the cross.
You’ll leave with more questions than you came with and your heart may feel heavy, emptying itself inside-out to make room for the Easter part of the story, some 39 hours later.
You’ll find this space and time worthwhile if you’re looking for someone to be real with at the close of the Lenten season. If you’re hungry for more space to explore the depths of pain in this world and level set our need for hope in the resurrection.
