EASTER | Maundy Thursday Details
If you missed it last year, the Maundy Thursday communion service returns this year on April 17. Sharing in the sacrament of communion is something we do monthly during worship at Downtown Church. But during Lent we set aside the monthly tradition and move the table across town to MACK Home and receive communion in small groups of 8-10 over the course of an entire evening.
Maundy Thursday is a drop-in, a worship service, and an intimate meal that recalls the same dining experience that Jesus and his closest followers shared at their Passover meal the night before he was arrested. Here, a seat will be saved (literally) for the one who instituted the sacrament by breaking bread and lifting a cup of wine before saying:
Take, eat. This is my body, given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. This cup is the new covenant sealed in my blood, shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.
You don't need to be a Presbyterian or even a regular at Downtown Church to eat with us. Come as you are and stay awhile.
