Deconstructing Downtown Church

Several months ago I wrote a post lamenting sterile “about" pages that managed to say absolutely nothing distinctive about the company, product, or church the “about” page represented. When I wrote that post, our own about page was guilty of the same fraud. Remembering what my father said about throwing rocks when you live in a glass house, we determined to rewrite our “about" page to more accurately reflect who we are, where we’re going, and what we can't live without. That work is now done and you can view it right here. We think you'll find a humble story about a group of real people working alongside God in an actual place that has a name, texture, and grammar that can't be cut and pasted. We didn’t work with any outside consultants to to write this new draft of our statement of mission. It's not a finished product and hopefully never will be. We believe downtown church is a movement, fluid within certain boundaries, but not an institution. So as new people join our movement and share their unique and timely gifts, prayers, and dreams the course of our mission will likely change enough to demand another rewrite. For now though, take a look at the draft and let us know what you think in the comments below.
