MEET | January 27th
The session of DOWNTOWN CHURCH has called a congregational meeting for Sunday, January 27th directly following the 10:30 AM worship service. The purposes of this meeting are to dissolve Amos' call as Co-Pastor and to change Dawn's title from Co-Pastor to Pastor.
The language of "dissolving a call" comes from our Presbyterian roots and is the way we ritually and officially mark the end of a pastor's call at a church. You may remember when we called Dawn as our Co-Pastor two years ago, we voted as a congregation to begin her call. So, too, as Amos leaves, we must vote to mark its end.
In full disclosure, if you are a member of DOWNTOWN CHURCH, you can vote "No" to Amos leaving. Many of us may want to do so, however, how does that saying go? "If you love something you gotta let it go."
Amos and Dawn will co-moderate this meeting together. Sara Hazzard, our clerk of session, will make the motion that we receive Amos' request to dissolve his call here so that he can begin ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Dallas effective February 24, 2019.
Sara will then make a motion that we change Dawn's title. Dawn can't be a Co- without another person to Co- with. The session is grateful that Dawn is already here with us to provide leadership moving forward. Her presence now is a gift that Amos and the leadership team gave us several years back by planning for a model in which we would have a smooth transition when the founding pastor, Amos, took another call.
The session is aware that this church has grown quite large to be served by one pastor and will begin forming a plan to recruit additional awesome pastoral leadership in our near future.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to our clerk, Sara, or to Dawn or Amos should you have any questions before the meeting.
