ORDINATION | Lucas Jones

Something big is going down.

On Sunday, February 21, in the great year of our Lord 2021, Lucas K. Jones will be ordained and installed as a Presbyterian Pastor in the PC(USA) church.

Listen to a conversation about ordination below and read the FAQ:

(1) Isn’t Lucas already our pastor?

Yes. This is what makes it official. There will be a commission (read: group of holy folks) who will mark this moment as the culmination of his studies, his internships, and jumping through the hoops of becoming fully prepared to be ordained a Presbyterian pastor.

(2) Sounds like a big deal. Should I paint up for it?

I mean, you can. That might make him a little self conscious. Wear your mask and a coat if it’s cold. He knows you’re smiling beneath that mask.

(3) Have we done this before?

No! We haven’t. We installed both Amos and Dawn, but they were already ordained. This is a historic moment for us — to not only call a pastor to our church, but get to ordain him, too.

(4) Shouldn’t we have a big party to celebrate?

Yes! Just as soon as it is possible to invite all of our friends - and Lucas’ friends - we will host a party at CE with all the works.

(5) Why now?

Good question. We could have ordained Lucas back in July when he started his work with us, but....covid. We got tired of waiting, plus we need Lucas to be ordained before Dawn takes parental leave this summer.

(6) Will this service be outside?

Yes, weather permitting. We can be most flexible with attendance outside. We can be the most safe, too.

(7) What happens if it rains?

The outdoor service will be cancelled. The commission and Lucas’ family who have traveled to Columbia will move inside and the service will be live-streamed for all to participate.

(8) What should I get Lucas to celebrate his ordination?

He likes ice cream with chocolate swirl, bourbon, and all things hiking. Also, anything with “Rev.” or “Reverend” printed before his name would be appropriate. Really though, a word of welcome and congratulations will be more than enough.
