GO | Wilderness Wandering

Part of the grandeur of wilderness is that it cares so little about the things that absorb us very much.
—Belden Lane

Jesus got tired sometimes and rather than spending hours looking at his phone he decided to go out into the wilderness. He went to the river, out on the sea, up a mountain or into the desert. Sometimes he took his disciples with him and sometimes he went alone. Wilderness has long been a unique place of divine revelation, where we remove ourselves temporarily from the routine of our everyday lives to meet God and one another authentically and fully exposed.

Wilderness can be a place to both receive healing, and also one that helps us reimagine how we live in the world in relation to God, the world, and our fellow creature. Because of this, I want to go out into the woods, and I want to do it with folks from DTC.

Details aren’t finalized or even close to being set in stone, but I want to know who is interested. Who would be up to hike 7 miles a day with a 40lb pack in the Great Smoky Mountains? Who wants to hop on a plane and learn how to embrace silence by spending a week in the desert of Utah? Who wants to dream up an opportunity to go out into the wild arena of God’s creation and return as changed, smelly, blistered-covered people?

If that sounds like something you’re interested in, please fill out this form.
