GO | Cuba
After preaching school, Justo Gonzalez lamented that though he now better understood scripture, he didn't know what do with it any longer. Growing up in Cuba, he had experienced the Bible as a gift, carefully opened as it offered strength and inspiration. Often in the American church, the Bible is a source of guidance. We approach it critically, if not cautiously, as something to be dissected to be understood. Rarely do we open it as a gift. Rarely do we expect it to be good to us.
Launching in 2020, DOWNTOWN CHURCH will go to Cuba.
We'll be hosted by the Presbyterian Reformed Church of Cuba. There is a lot we can learn from them.
As with most learning, it takes time. Over the next 3-5 years, we will be building a relationship with a specific church in Cuba. There will be several trips happening, but the very first one is to explore Cuba and identify which church we will partner with in the long haul.
Interesting, if not important, details:
Dates of the Exploratory Trip:
Feb 7 - 15, 2020
Follow Up Partnership Trip: Spring 2021
Ballpark Cost: $1800
(This ballpark includes air travel, religious visa, lodging, food, transportation in Cuba, translators and guides)
