GROUP | The Other Side of Advent
Ed Dobson was the pastor of a big church. He was an author. People knew him for his gifts, not his weaknesses.
And then he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2000. The diagnoses got worse - Ed, the doctor's said, would not live long. He would suffer, but the suffering forced him to deal with issues like forgiveness, gratitude, and identity. While dying, he learned how to live.
Ed's Story is a seven-part short film series. If you join this group you will not be spared the details that the soul shares in the midst of suffering. The series is both deeply hopeful and hard to believe - people like Ed do that to you.
I watched it with my home group over six weeks this spring. We were inspired by the story, and months later we are still trying to make sense of it. Whether or not anyone registers for "Ed's Story", I'm going to watch the videos again, people like Ed make me wake up to life and pay attention.
