  The Call (God & Maria)

Jeremiah 33:3

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

The call
I make is ever-changing.
An ask, a thank you, a smile,
occasionally a weep, of joy or fear.

I’ve written it down
With a marker, colored pencil, a crayon
In a sketchbook, on scattered sticky notes.

Breathed it out
while walking under a patch of sunshine and leaves
while the wind is touching everything.

Closed my eyes,
imagined a mustard yellow phone,
with a circular dial, vintage numbers,
a chord spiraling to the wall.

Sometimes I doubt you hear me
And then
the answer always arrives.

Each hello surprising, always mysterious, often playful
and the great, comforting thing you tell me
is to trust.

That is the answer.
