Listen (God & Conner)
Luke 2:28-30
28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation.
"Simeon was a harbinger of unknown origin. We don't know much about him, but we know he was righteous, devout and acted on his convictions received from the Divine Source. He received his instructions directly from God. He welcomed the Savior of all humanity at the temple for the traditional dedication of the firstborn to God. What a profound honor and blessing to welcome baby Jesus at the temple for that special occasion. I can understand Simeon's relief upon his fulfilling the instructions given to him, especially given that occasion.
The lesson from Simeon is to just wait and listen for the instructions given from the Divine Source. That is how God's Promise is revealed. When revealed, abide by it. The work required to fulfill and actualize God's Promise is actually not work at all; it is a source of reprieve, comfort, and consolation. When we act in accordance with these convictions, we are on the straight path despite the surrounding wilderness and desolation, and we are traversing the valleys and mountains with ease. (Is. 40:1-5). What we thought of as difficult work is transformable into a source of pleasure and relief, no matter how big or small the task or difficulty perceived by others in the world.
